Over the years we have had many opportunities to photograph weddings at Hampton Court Palace and it never ceases to amaze us with its sheer beauty and history, we just love this place. Christine and David, not content with one wedding ceremony, celebrated their big day by starting off with a traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony.

For those of you unfamiliar with this, it involves the groom collecting the bride prior to the ceremony. All sounds simple enough doesn’t it, well it’s not without it’s challenges. I don’t think for a nanosecond David had anticipated that on the morning of his wedding he would be doing press up with claps in between, he and his groomsmen serenading Christine, eating wasabi paste, or possibly the worst for David – eating cold cauliflower (I am led to believe this is his most disliked food!). In between these challenges, he is also trying to bribe the bride with gifts! David of course rose to every challenge and was allowed in to collect his beautiful bride for the main ceremony held in the Mitre Hotel – a beautiful riverside hotel a stones throw from Hampton Court Palace.

The Tea Ceremony involves family and friends receiving Chinese Tea served by the bride and groom, the guests also feed the couple an item from a sweet plate, I believe this signifies the couple will have a sweet marriage. Gifts are also exchanged from the parents to the couple, with other family and friends receiving a gift from the bride and groom in a traditional red envelope. It is incredibly interesting to observe.

Anyhow, enough of my ramblings 🙂 Here are a few images from this part of their wedding day – enjoy ♥
